TV Cabinet Redo
When we first moved into our home, I furnished it however we wanted without regard to how it would function with children. Sometimes you just can’t foresee these things. The second my daughter started cruising on furniture, I knew we had to sell our glass TV stand. Her little fingerprints covered the glass and it was short enough she could even stamp our TV. The clean freak in me starting grinding her teeth.
Please excuse the lack of window dressings, we had just moved in when this picture was taken.
I found a $40 cabinet by utilizing some of my Craigslist tips and tricks. It was lifted from the floor to allow our vent to blow heat or air, it was the right size to fit our 37″ flat screen, and most importantly, it had doors to keep little fingers off the screen. The only problem was it was a wood stain that didn’t match with my newly painted vibrant teal coffee table. Since I had accented the coffee table with black detailing, I decided to paint it black.
That little cord jumble is not cute, but you get the idea.
A few elements of the cabinet style matched the coffee table well, so I was pleased with this find. The arch on the bottom, the lines across the flat surface, and the simplistic knobs pull the two pieces together.
Those two initial stain colors were just slightly different, which is what I dislike about stained wood pieces. If they don’t perfectly match, it bothers me. With paint, you can make them match, contrast, or compliment much easier. Now our living room looks like this:
FYI, the buffet is likely going all black in the future. Right now, its stain color is the same as the kitchen cabinets in the next room, so I am still debating…
This TV cabinet exemplifies how important the right piece of furniture is not just for a space, but for your family. If you liked this makeover, check out my white bench or my teal coffee table. A big thanks to all my readers! I love to share my projects with you.
