Pallet Wood Wall Clock
This past weekend we took a big trip to Wisconsin for my college friends’ wedding. I wanted to make something really special for my friends since they appreciate handmade gifts. I’ve had this idea since I first saw this large clock on my blog friend Marie’s site, The Interior Frugalista. I was inspired to create a large wood wall clock for my friend’s wedding!
I got started by pulling apart a pallet. See other pallet wood projects I’ve done here.
I used the thin slats to create the design, cutting each into long triangles on my table saw.

I laid my triangle slats down and spaced them in a circle, leaving enough space in the middle for the clock mechanism.
Then I cut circles out of a thin sheet of wood composite using my handsaw. Once upon a time this sheet was the backing of this lime green dresser.
I cut a smaller circle that I screwed into each slat as a backing to make the clock strong. Then, I glued each slat down to a larger circle cut in a donut shape for the front of the clock.

Next, I flipped it over and painted the whole thing white with a DIY chalk paint recipe. I also cut a circle hole out of the middle for the clock mechanism to rest in.
I used my favorite black paint pens to write on the numbers. Then I distressed the whole thing with the sanding attachment on my multitool and went over the sanded parts with a dark wood stain to distress and give it more dimension.
For the clock mechanism, I took the piece out of an existing clock and made longer hands by hot gluing black card-stock on the existing hands. The white wood circle that the mechanism’s bolt went through was from the hole I cut in the center of the clock.

This is the finished result!
You can really see that the distressing brought the complicated design to life, adding emphasis to the different layers of wood!
I was really pleased with how the wood wall clock turned out, I wanted to keep it for my home!
It would have gone perfectly with the white washed family values sign I made last year! Oh well, I hope my friends love it and find a nice place for it in their home.
I hope you share my wood wall clock with your friends and pin it for inspiration on Pinterest. Thanks for reading and be sure to subscribe to my Youtube channel so you never miss a DIY video tutorial!

What a a lovely gift and especially it coming from friend.
Thanks for the idea – I found your site through a google image search (I believe my search was for “wood wall clock diy”) and I used your pictures and notes to make something similar. I didn’t have a pallet easily available but had a few remnants of 1x3s and 1x4s, and I bought a clock mechanism on amazon. Then used stencils to write the numbers and used a wood burner to finish them.
