Outdoor Christmas Decor
Ever since I painted our front door this beautiful burgundy red, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed decorating our front entrance to welcome people into our home. Here’s a quick tour of what I did for our Christmas decor outside this year.
Below is a DIY planter I was inspired to make from Pinterest (you may remember the idea from my 10 Christmas crafts). But unlike the original idea where they made hanging greenery, I built mine into a vase display. It was way easier than I ever thought! For some reason I didn’t realize you can just cut off evergreens and decorate with them, I always assumed the branches died rather quickly like their deciduous relatives.
So basically I just cut off branches of two types of evergreens in my yard and stuck them into a vase filled with rocks. I added the rocks to keep the branches in place and the vase anchored from the wind. I actually had TWO of these gorgeous displays to flank my garage with, but as I was dropping rocks into the second vase, it busted into a billion pieces! So please PLACE your rocks, don’t drop them.
To keep your evergreens fresh and lively looking longer, you can even spritz the branches with water on a day when the temperature is above freezing (works for your real Christmas tree, too!). I finished by adding some (fake) winter berries and a big bow. I just love how it turned out!
Of course, showcasing outdoor Christmas decor would not be complete without giving you a look at the lit up version at night. Here is my awesome evergreen display softly illuminated by twinkling Christmas lights.
Next to the door I added a mini Christmas tree. I strung lights and perched a gold grapevine star on top. The star is supposed to light up, too, but it’s apparently broken. I love the idea of having a little Christmas tree by your front entrance! Next year I think I want to have a skinny, Charlie Brown style tree in that corner next to the front door.
This is what you see when you drive past or drive up to our house. Simple lights, I know, but also classic.
And this is what you see as you enter our home. Inviting, right?
Let me know if you were particularly inspired by anything in my decor this year! And don’t forget to see what I did to deck the halls inside my home as well.
