I also don’t have a rug in my kitchen. With the amount of crumbs and spilled milk that happen in my house, I’m pretty sure it’d be ruined in less than a week.

I’ve never heard of a sisal rug before. Are there qualities about them that make them good for the dining room?

As for the rug in the dining room, there is a product called FLOR that may work, they are sold in small squares. If you get a stain on it, you can swap out the square rather than it ruining the whole rug!
