I used the existing holes in the dresser from the knobs, and just drilled screws into the strip of wood. So each strip of wood, the “pulls” are held on by two screws. Thanks for the compliment!

I did sand it down, then I applied a primer, two coats of paint and seven coats of poly. I’ve painted furniture the fast way before and it never holds up. Enjoy the process, more work makes the end result all the more satisfying.

Gray is really in right now and I think contrasting the fireplace in a darker color is a great idea! The drawers of this dresser do stick a bit when you open and close them, but my husband and I don’t mind. It sounds like you and I both have a similarly modern style!
