Modern DIY Fire Pit Easy Build

Hey everyone! Things have been such a whirlwind around here with the renovations on our new(ish) home. Between fabricating countertops, caring for my children, planting a hedge, fixing broken toys, and end of the school year activities, I haven’t had time to catch my breath. This project today is something I actually made a couple weeks ago, but I’m just now getting around to posting it! You might remember last spring I built a cement fire pit at our house. Since we moved, I was sad we won’t get to enjoy it anymore! I decided to build a new version, but this time I was a bit smarter.

Modern DIY Fire Pit

As you can see, I did things a bit differently.

• I didn’t include a sand bottom because it wasn’t necessary. Dirt works fine.
• Normal cement blocks were used to build the square shape instead of fancy bricks like my last pit. Maybe you could even find some discounted at the hardware store to build your own?!
• I added a liner. The other pit did not have a circular liner and in reality I should have added one. The cement won’t last long without discoloring or cracking if you don’t have a fire pit liner with steel coating in there to protect it. The liner I bought was not that expensive! You can get one here.

It’s so much fun to relax by the fire and burn stuff. It’s cathartic. Since we have so many pallets and cardboard packaging attached to all our renovation items (front door, new range, etc) I’ve been using the fire pit a lot!

This past Friday we also hosted an end of the school year grill out and enjoyed time around the fire with our friends. It is such an enjoyable and beautiful aspect of our yard! Plus I feel good in knowing I build it all by myself in just a few hours!
