Kitchen Makeover Before After Reveal
Today is the day I’ve finally compiled everything we’ve done to update our kitchen since we moved in last fall. Almost exactly one year later, I can safely say my kitchen is done! While we didn’t change the cabinetry, we changed almost every other aspect of the whole space. Get ready for a photo packed post in our kitchen makeover before after reveal.
Before
The before photos were taken from the house listing when the previous owners lived here and when we first moved in.
While it was clear the previous owners had done a lot to try to update the space, there were quite a few functional changes I wanted to make. The major thing was moving the stove/microwave away from being in front of a window (so weird!) and taking out the huge wall/closet that separated the kitchen from flowing into the dining room.
Months of Work
What HGTV never shows you is that renovations don’t take weeks, they take months. Even if you’re hiring a good portion of it out, getting in the contractor’s schedule and product backorders can really mess with your ideal timeline. Our renovation started in February when we updated the pendant lights and we just finished this past week when I trimmed out the new window and caulked everything.
I DIY-ed as much as I felt comfortable. The aspects we hired out was removing the wall, installing the new gas range, replacing the window behind the old stove, plumbing the sink drain, and installing the floor. The list of DIY projects I completed for this room makeover is as follows:
- Patch cupboard around where microwave was
- Install/Paint new cupboard where stove was
- Fabricate solid surface counters
- Remove pine trim and install new trim work
- Install new sink and faucet
- Install tongue and groove blue pine ceiling to continue through where the wall was removed.
Kitchen Makeover After
It is definitely rewarding to look at the before and after pictures side by side. I can’t get over how much brighter and cleaner the space looks!
