Hand-Painted Owl Key Chains Made From Wood Slice
In the fall, I taught a sex-ed class called Our Whole Lives (OWL) to preteens at our church. When the class ended, I wanted to make each of the kids a heartfelt gift to remind them of our time together. I had the idea to make owl key chains and I devised a way to cut wood slices for this easy craft! These hand-painted owl key chains were well received and fun to make.
You can see in the video that you can make any size of wood slice keychain by selecting the desired diameter of log to cut on your saw. I sanded the wood slivers a bit after cutting, drilled a hole for a metal ring, and then simply painted my design!
These adorable owls turned out great! I hope you enjoyed watching me paint them in the video. I created the image below for you to pin and share this idea. Not only is this craft highly customizable, but it also costs next to nothing!

Nice owls! I like the idea, but I’m not a great painter.
So very cute! I’m thinking I would love these as Christmas ornaments.
I love owls!!! I’d love to try this idea! Beautiful!!
Where is easiest place to get the wood slices?
Make them yourself! If you don’t have power tools, you can use a cheap hacksaw to cut slices from a long of any width! Otherwise if you want to buy them, here’s an affiliate link to a product on Amazon: https://amzn.to/2ISdn15
Thanks for the question!
