Hallway Makeover White Trim Reveal
As you know if you’re a frequent reader, this summer I spent a TON of time painting my wood trim in the upstairs of my house white. Today I’m going to share the hallway makeover that made a huge impact! It all started a long time ago when we got new white windows and I decided to paint the surrounding trim white to match.
I left the baseboards because doing the window trim took me 3 weeks of working continuously. It was a bigger job than I could imagine taking on again. However, this year my husband and I decided we aren’t ready to move for at least another few years. This encouraged me to take on the tedious task of painting ALL the upstairs trim white. Hopefully you’ve seen my comprehensive video tutorial for how to paint white trim. I’ve got a lot of time saving tricks in there.
The biggest transformation in all of my painting was the hallway makeover. Our hallway was very dark and outdated with oak trim from the late 1980’s.
I couldn’t wait to brighten up this space. The door to the right enters into the bathroom, the door straight ahead with the sign on it enters the nursery, and the door to the left enters the master bedroom. This hallway gets a lot of use, as you can imagine.
I did something a little different with the doors. After removing them, instead of doing white like the rest of the trim, I decided to go with gloss black.
I painted them outside on our patio and transformed the door handles by spray painting them black.
What was once an outdated, dark hallway is now transformed to a bright and modern space.
I’m not going to lie, all of this was an incredible amount of work. Each door frame took three coats and each coat took an hour. I spent most of the month of June and July painting trim in my free time. Although, when I look at the HUGE improvement between these before and after pictures, I know it was all worth it.
At first I didn’t love the drastic contrast between the black doors and white trim, but it has really grown on me. Plus, the new colors really make my pallet wood sign of family values on the wall stand out.
It just looks SO different! If you liked these before and after photos, please share them!
Thanks for reading! Don’t forget to pin this hallway makeover for future inspiration and share with your friends on Facebook. Until next time!
I love it! it also makes your wall art really stand out. great job!
Thank you Jodee! I think it looks so much better, too.
Very bright and nice. My hallway of 1910 house is bright. I have been toying with dark gray. I do not like the White they painted in here. Brown in every room.
Jody, thanks for the compliment! I’ve often tried to mix grays with browns and had little success. How’re you liking dark gray with the brown color scheme of your house?
