Front Entrance Curb Appeal
My home’s front entrance curb appeal has a lot of charm during the fall…
…and the winter.
However, I’ve never been super proud of my summer displays to welcome guests into my home. Here are the things I have done this past month to ramp up the front entrance curb appeal!
Replace Outdoor Lights
I never realized before how easy it is to switch out the exterior lighting of your home! First, turn off electricity to your lights! Hit the breaker switch and double check the lights don’t turn on. Then I began by removing the two small screws that held the old light in place.
Then I removed the screws holding in the metal plate mounted underneath.
I pulled out the wires and unscrewed the plastic knobs holding together the sets of wires.
Voila! The old light fixture was gone!
Next I dusted and cleaned the area. Attaching the new light fixture is as simple as lining up the colored wire. White wire gets paired with white and black with black – easy! Hold the wires together and screw the plastic knobs down over them so they are touching.
Then shove the wires back into the hole and replace the metal plate with screws. If your new light fixtures come with new metal plates, go ahead and switch those out, too. I was using hand-me-down light fixtures so I had to reuse the metal plates.
The long screws that stick out are meant to go through the holes that hold your light fixture to the wall. Line up the base of the light fixture to the metal plate and poke the screw ends through. Then secure them with the two small screws you removed in step 1.
My new lights are smaller, but way more my style than the old ornate ones.
Build Mounted Planter Box
Next, I wanted to display my house number in a cute, prominent way. I decided to use an old wood box I was given by my in-laws and paint it black to match the new outdoor lights.
I filmed attaching the numbers and displaying seasonal decor inside the box Live on my Facebook page. Here’s the video:
You can buy these same modern house numbers on Amazon for cheaper than I found at the store! To mount the planter box on the side of my home, I screwed picture hanging hardware to the back of the box. Lastly, I screwed two screws into my wood siding and hung the box. That easy!
I absolutely love how this DIY turned out! It is so cute and I have gotten a lot of compliments on it already.
I also think it matches just perfectly with the beautiful bohemian wreath I made Live on my Facebook page earlier this year.
Front Entrance Curb Appeal
My front entrance went from this:
to this…
…with just a couple small changes that I think make a big impact!
With my landscaping in full late summer bloom, I feel happy every time I walk up to my house! The bright teal door is cheerful, the house number planter box is adorable, the landscaping is beautiful, and the wooden bench is welcoming. I think I succeeded in ramping up my front entrance curb appeal this summer!
Thanks for reading! Don’t forget to pin and share.
Until next time!
Melissa,
I love what you’ve done! I think a larger rug/mat outside the front door would really finish the space.
Thanks!
I love this! What color did you use to paint your front door?
It’s actually a color I mixed up myself. You can learn how to create the perfect teal with this video tutorial: https://www.facebook.com/welcome2thewoods/videos/591161221324108/
