DIY Macrame Wall Hanging
The trend of macrame has come back with a flourish of interesting plant hangers and wall art in people’s homes. I am not a fan of chunky or seriously intricate styles, but I do love modern takes on what is undoubtedly a beautiful craft. Today, I am excited to share a DIY macrame wall hanging I completed to give as a gift for my friend Morgan who just had her first baby. She wanted something handmade and special to decorate the nursery. In true Welcome to the Woods fashion, I got a little creative with materials because I didn’t want to spend a lot of money. Instead, I spent a lot of time and patience putting together this piece. I hope you love it!
Making Tassels
For this wall hanging, I needed to learn to make tassels! I had never made them before believe it or not, so I found a video on Youtube to show me how. I was inspired by this piece on Brittany Makes (one of my favorite blogs – go follow her)! Morgan, my friend, asked that I not make it too large, so I scaled back a bit on what Brittany made. Putting together these 13 tassels was time consuming and I would not have wanted to keep going anyways!
I used string instead of macrame cord because I wanted a billowy look!
Copper Tube Hack
I loved the metallic brass tubes in the inspiration so I recreated something similar using straws! I simply bought Rust-Oleum Metallic Copper spray paint and poked each straw in an egg carton to spray them.
I’m not going to lie, I was proud of myself for this idea. I let the paint fully dry before touching or cutting the straws. In the end the turned out looking like real (expensive) copper tubes!
DIY Macrame Wall Hanging
As with most of my tutorials lately, I filmed a video you can watch to see the whole process. Learn how I made the tassels, how I put everything together, and see my face talking.
The idea to use a coat hanger is another brainchild of mine. I just really like to up-cycle and really dislike spending money. You would never know the hanging mechanism on this gorgeous piece was once used to hang clothes!
And I think my string tassels turned out more romantic than normal tassels, billowy just like I wanted.
Please pin this to Pinterest and share with your friends! Although it took some time to make I think it is a trendy and eye-catching piece many would enjoy making themselves.
Until my friend receives it, I have hung the DIY macrame wall hanging in my husband’s office. It goes perfectly with the other copper accents I’ve put in there.
Thanks for reading! I am so busy packing and moving and whatnot I think I might just skip right over fall. I hope you can forgive me. You know when Christmas arrives, I will be hitting the seasonal decor hard to get my new home charming as can be. Spoiler – I get to decorate a front porch! ๐
