DIY Bean Bag Toss Game
This week I have been painting this DIY bean bag toss game. My former classmate and reader, Kelsey, asked me if I would help her prepare these as a wedding gift for a friend. Her and her dad made the boxes with mostly 2 by 4’s and then asked me to paint them. I’m sorry I didn’t get a picture of the boxes when they were just bare wood, but basically I started by coating them with one coat of primer, then two coats of gray paint.
Then I taped off the edges and painted a thin line of white to frame the box.
Next I cut out a stencil made from matte cardboard (the stuff you frame photos with) in the letter “R.” Kelsey had the idea to write the wedding couple’s last initial and then the date they got married on the boxes. She didn’t want to buy stencils and didn’t even know how to find a stencil big enough, so that’s why she asked for my help.
I laid the giant “R” down and traced it with pencil. Then I filled in my pencil lines with two coats of white paint. I did the same process with the wedding date, except I didn’t use a stencil. I freehand drew the numbers until they looked good to me and then filled in my pencil lines. Here’s the end result!
This idea was very special and got me thinking of all the other ways you could create a custom craft as a wedding gift. My brother is getting married this Saturday and my head has been spinning! Have you ever done a DIY wedding present?
