Christmas Decor 2018 Holiday Home Tour
Decorating for Christmas this year has been my funnest yet! I have so many DIY projects and beautiful decorations from years gone past that I was able to put a handmade stamp in every room. PLUS I got to deck the halls in our new home! My Christmas decor 2018 Holiday Home Tour is sure to inspire.
I realize for some of my followers, this will be your first glimpse into our new home. I hope you love it!
Living Room Holiday Decor
Let’s get started in the living room. The living room probably looks a lot different than even the New Home Tour video I shared on my Facebook page. Since moving in, I’ve built a new coffee table, modified the industrial modern end tables I built in the spring, repositioned our furniture, and more!
By removing the beloved teal from my living room design and creating very neutral permanent furniture pieces, I have more freedom to pop a color with each season. For Christmas – it’s red!
This handmade wreath I made using stems I picked up at the thrift store. You might have seen that video if you are part of the Welcome to the Woods group.
I hung a mirror over the midcentury modern dresser that I refinished a few years ago. The simple decor pieces on top exemplify the modern style I’m going for.
Although my black framed mirror is beautiful in the space, I had a hard time photographing without me in the shot!! 😉
You might remember the vintage sled I painted a snowy evergreen forest scene on last Christmas. I found these two little evergreen trees for a couple bucks at a garage sale to compliment the sled.
On my living room sofa are an assortment of textured throw pillows. Flanking the sofa you can see my end tables with new birch fronts and DIY glass table lamps. A couple weeks ago I finished building the birch coffee table which is beautiful in the space! Of course I miss my famous teal coffee table, but I also love how this project turned out. Tutorial coming after Christmas!
These hand-lettered coasters were a fun craft I made from leftover flooring samples when I installed our LVP floor. I simply used black oil-based Sharpie paint pens (my fav!) to decorate them.
Swing around to the other side of the living room and you will see our Family Values sign‘s new home.
I usually put a lot of my houseplants into bedrooms while holiday decor is out, but this jade won me over with it’s “evergreen” colored leaves.
Classic Christmas Tree 2018
Beside the living room is an area we are using as the kids’ play room. That’s where we set up the tree and stockings since it is near the center of our home and multiple windows.
I did a post all about the tree last week. This year I decorated in red, green, and metallics.
When decorating, I focused on adding other seasonal items around the base of the tree besides just gifts. I think this makes the tree look more designer and it is definitely something I will do again in future years.
At night, the tree shines in the center of our house and it’s so magical!
Dining Room Christmas Decor
Moving into the adjacent dining room, I’ve so far hung these shelves and painted the window frames white. Decorating these shelves adds a place for seasonal decor to be on display. For the centerpiece, I simply placed real poinsettias in a painted wood box.
Last year my most popular seasonal craft was this painted birch “JOY” sign made from reclaimed lumber. Since we moved away from the juniper bushes near our other house, I placed a smaller faux wreath in place of the O. This hangs on one of our dining room walls in a prominent spot of our home.
Here’s the perfect image for you to pin of the inside Christmas decor I share with you in my holiday home tour!
Outside Christmas Decor
As far as the exterior of our house, I wasn’t sure about how to do lights so I skipped those for this year. I did make a wreath with natural elements that I shared the video tutorial on my Facebook page. This hangs in the middle of our front porch since right now that front door is not center (that’s going to change).
Besides the wreath, I hung red bows on the front porch pillars and wove soft faux garland through the railings. Here’s the photo we took on our front porch for Christmas cards this year.
I wish you a Merry merry Christmas. I cannot wait until the New Year as I begin to share some before/after reveals. We’ve been working hard on fixing up rooms and remodeling!

Looks amazing, I am loving the red, I did red last year. It’s a easy colour to find, and to make items. I picked mint, this year not that easy. Loved seeing all your creations. Wising you Melissa and your family a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year. X
I especially like the shading on the slat edges, it gives it that extra umph! Nicly done. Great use for reclaimed wood. Really enjoy all your projects. Merry Christmas!
