Basement Redo: Girls Bedroom Reveal!
The first two years we lived in our bi-level home, our basement hardly got used. But, as our family has grown, we’ve grown into the space. There is a main area in the basement which is our playroom (click to see the incredible makeover), a small bedroom which is used as my husband’s office, and my favorite room in the house which is currently my son Nicks’ bedroom, the Dr. Seuss room. My daughter Lily recently claimed the last remaining space in our basement as a girls bedroom. It used to be my craft room and looked something like this:
Now it looks like this:
If you read my blog, you’ve gotten a glimpse at the major DIY project in this room, my daughter’s closet that I created from an old entertainment center.
You won’t believe what it used to look like! Now it holds her clothes and laundry and features the perfect dress up mirror.
This room was fun to design, the inspiration came from a painting I made for Lily before she was born. This acrylic painting of a lily used to hang in our nursery when it was hers.
I used these colors throughout the room in various ways.
Besides the entertainment center closet, I also found a bed for Lily off Facebook’s local garage sale site that has drawer storage underneath.
In a room with limited space, it was great to add storage with the furniture we chose.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve fallen asleep on this bed with her, now that she has a twin big enough for us two.
Lily also loves having her name spelled out big on the wall because she is just learning to read. She can spell her nickname “Lily,” but can’t quite spell her full name yet. I’m sure looking at “Lillian” on the wall every day will help with that.
In the corner you’ll see this cute hanging canopy I got from a garage sale. Initially we had it hanging over her bed, but it got in the way of the drawers underneath the bed opening, so we moved it into the corner. Lily uses it as a fort and loves to climb in there to sit and read a book.
In this other corner, we have a little grand piano displayed that Santa brought this past Christmas.
It is one of Lily’s favorite toys, she even learned to play “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” on it.
I kept the bookshelves in the room from when they stored my craft supplies. Now they are filled with kids games, children’s books, and Lily’s piggy bank (the rainbow).
Thank you for stopping by to check out my little girls bedroom. If you’d like the see the breakdown of costs for everything in this room, that post will be added to my home tour very soon, so stay posted! Tell me, what was your favorite part of Lily’s bedroom? Have you designed a girls bedroom recently and want to share?
It looks great. I love it, the pops of color make it cheery and fun. I really wish we had a basement or any extra space for that matter.
Thank you Ashley! We are definitely utilizing all our extra space at this point getting ready for baby #3!
This is such a sweet bedroom! I love the simple decor and bright colors! How exciting to be having a new baby soon! I have three kids and they are all close in age, it is so much fun!
Thank you Emily! I’ve seen pics of your three littles, I love the dimples and think they are so cute!
