Baby as Elderly Halloween Costume
Ever since last autumn, I had it in my head that this Halloween I would dress my kids up in an elderly Halloween costume. I got the idea from a ph
oto on Pinterest of this adorable baby girl dressed as an old woman with a gray wig and walker. I thought it would be perfect since I knew I would have a baby near ready to walk this Halloween. Well, my son Nick got to walking a little earlier than I expected, but hopefully he’ll still use the walker I made to trick or treat tonight. Here’s how I made my children each an elderly Halloween costume.
The Build – Building a Walker
I’ll show you the walker first. I wanted very thin pieces of wood to build the walker so that it might look like metal bars. I found some luck with a seat from a pair of bar stools I revamped. (If you’re an avid reader, you know I haven’t shared that project yet. Don’t worry, I’ll show you what I did with the bar stools in the near future)! Anyway, the seat was made of thin, curved slats of wood. You can see what the bar stool seat looked like before, next to the walker I created with the seat slats.
I ended up really happy with how my DIY baby walker turned out. I just spray painted it metallic silver and added tennis balls to each leg. Then I taped some black electrical tape around the middle of the top bars as “handles” if you will.

Drawing on Wrinkles, Finding Elderly Clothes
First off, I drew on the wrinkles with my make up. I could‘ve done a more realistic job, but these wrinkles were already extremely dif
ficult to draw on. My poor children were squirming and whimpering the whole time. Nick’s costume was just his regular clothes I tucked in and turned into suspenders with a camera bag strap. Lily’s nose & glasses we got from her aunt & uncle as a hand me down costume. I tied a bandana and little scarf around her head for a bonnet. I put her in her regular clothes, turning a dress into a long skirt by tying it around her waist. I stuffed clothes up her cardigan to make it look like she had something there, albeit saggy. Lily’s “cane” is just a walking stick.
